Description

Spantik, also known as the Golden Peak due to its golden wall facing Hunza from the south, is one of the most accessible 7000-meter peaks in the Karakoram. The trek to reach it offers a dramatic approach along the Chogolungma Glacier, passing through stunning mountain scenery that diverges from the usual trekking routes. Climbing Spantik is relatively straightforward, leading to breathtaking views in all directions from the summit, especially in clear weather conditions.

There are two notable ridges: the South East and the North West. The South East ridge is a long and challenging snow ridge with some technical sections and minimal objective danger. It was successfully climbed on July 5, 1955, by a team led by K. Kramer. The North West ridge, also known as the Golden Pillar, presents a massive combination of ice and rock. British climbers Mick Fowler and Victor Saunders were the first to successfully summit via this route.

Spantik represents a Himalayan-scale objective, ideal for those with prior experience climbing 6000-meter trekking peaks, or as valuable acclimatization for those preparing for an 8000-meter expedition.
