Description

Gasherbrum II, the final peak in the eight-thousand-meter ranking, is positioned on the northwest of the Baltoro Glacier, adjacent to Hidden Peak. Surrounded by the impressive presence of K-2, Gasherbrum I, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum IV, Chogolisa, and Golden Throne, Gasherbrum II allures a significant number of mountaineers annually. It serves as an ideal introductory peak for high mountain climbing. While not as challenging as Hidden Peak, ascending Gasherbrum II still provides a formidable and rewarding experience. The initial climb to camp I presents numerous crevasses.

The Austrian Karakoram Expedition, under the leadership of Firtz Moravec, successfully summited via the left Buttress of the South Face (normal route) on July 8, 1956. The triumphant climbers included Firtz Moravec, Josef Larch, and Hans Willenpart.
