Itinerary

Start your day with an early drive lasting approximately three hours to reach Khaplu. Upon arrival, delve into an afternoon walking tour, exploring the Khaplu Palace, the village, and the Khanqah, a sanctuary known for spiritual retreats and hosting journeymen. Retire for the night at the hotel after a day of discovery.

Today, venture northward to Hushe Village (3050m), reaching the northern limit permitted by the Government. The road journey takes you through picturesque wheat fields until you reach Machulo village, where you'll pause for tea before continuing along a rugged, rocky, and sandy road to the captivating village of Hushe. This village marks the endpoint of the renowned 14-day hike from Askole to K2 basecamp, spanning across the Baltoro glacier and Gondogoro-La Pass. Accommodate yourself at a humble guest house, where you'll enjoy dinner and spend the night.

Commence your day amidst the rugged and imposing Karakoram mountain range, embarking on a scenic 10-kilometer hike to Dumsum, situated at the foot of the Masherbrum Glacier. The trail meanders through rocky and sandy terrain, offering glimpses of the striking black and grey peaks that characterize this majestic landscape. Masherbrum peak, also referred to as K-1, stands prominently at 7821 meters, its distinctive pointed silhouette often overshadowed by the presence of neighboring 8000-meter peaks. After the expedition, return to the guest house for an overnight stay.

Today, begin your journey in the familiar direction before veering off towards the Humbrok Valley. Here, you'll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the Humbrok "Cigarette Peak" (6459m), aptly named due to the winds shaping the snow on its sides to resemble smoke blown off a cigarette. If weather conditions permit, you may also catch sight of Gasherbrum I (8080m), the 11th highest peak in the world, along with its sister peak Gasherbrum II (8035m), and even the majestic K-2 (8611m). After soaking in the magnificent scenery, return to the guest house for an overnight stay.

Embarking on our journey back down the picturesque Hushe Valley, we make our way towards Khaplu, followed by Shigar, with part of the drive tracing the path alongside the enchanting Shyok River. Upon reaching Shigar, settle into the hotel accommodations. Here, you have the option to explore the historic old fort through a hike or simply wander through the charming surroundings, taking in sights such as the 14th-century Amburiq Mosque, the labyrinthine bazaar, and the meticulously restored Khanqah. Spend the night in comfort at the hotel.

Following a relaxed breakfast, continue your journey to Skardu.
